DIRECTV: On-Screen Messages

The following is a complete list of all on-screen messages you may encounter on your DIRECTV system.


To start service, please call customer service, ext. 711

The access card in your receiver has not been properly activated (activation only).

You need to reactivate your HU card with a proper activation file or subscription.

The channel you are trying to watch is not Included In your programming package. Usually occurs when a script has been hashed.

Clean your card and load a new script - use Extreme HU.

Your access to this channel has expired. Usually occurs when a script has been hashed.

Your access card is full, please call customer service, ext. 731

Your access card has exceeded its pay per view limit. This happens if you have ordered more than 25 PPVs which is the limit for activation.

Add more PPV money to your HU card in Extreme HU (for activation only).

Each DIRECTV account has a monthly credit limit for pay per view purchases. You may have exceeded this limit, which prevents you from ordering additional pay per view programs with your remote control.

There is a problem transmitting the programming information to your DIRECTV System equipment.

Check your receiver connection and/or your satellite dish.

The bin (script) on your HU card may be invalid and has been removed from service.

Your bin may have been blacklisted by DIRECTV. This means that they have outlawed your bin from working in any receiver at any time or your receiver may have trapped your bin in memory, causing the 744/745 message. To fix this, you will need to patch your 3M on to an alternate bin. In time, this alternate bin will replace the bin in memory, allowing you to use the original bin again on your HU card.

Please stand by

If you are experiencing a blank screen or a screen with the message "Please stand by," you should unplug your receiver for at least 15 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for up to two minutes. Make sure the receiver's power is on, and the picture should be restored.


Please insert a valid Access Card

There is an old, defective or invalid access card in your receiver. The system can no longer process the information that is encoded on the card.

Your HU card has been looped. You will need to unloop your. Use Extreme HU, try to clean and load a new script, it will tell you if there is a problem with your card, follow the directions.


Searching for satellite signal. Please stand by

Your receiver is searching for the satellite signal. If the message continues for more than one minute your receiver cannot pick up a signal the satellite.

Check your dish's position to be sure it has not moved. Test the signal strength using your remote control and on-screen menu. Your owner's manual explains how to run a signal test. Make sure the cables that run from your dish to your receiver are securely connected. If you have had severe weather conditions, you should inspect your dish for tree limbs, leaves, or other items that could interrupt a signal.


Channel not available

Your account is not authorized to receive the channel or programming is not available for this channel when you are trying to watch it.


Please insert your Access Card

Your receiver cannot read your access card.

Make sure the access card is fully inserted in the receiver with the arrows facing up and into the machine.


This Access Card has expired. Please install your new Access Card

DIRECTV replaces access cards periodically and you have an outdated access card. The receiver can no longer process information that is encoded on the card.

Clean card and replace script. Use Extreme HU.


This Access Card is no longer valid. Please insert your new Access Card

You have inserted the wrong card

You cannot use your card in more than one receiver. When you insert your card and turn the receiver on it marries your card to the receiver and it will not work in another receiver.

Alternate - Unmarry your card - use Extreme HU, insert your card, and go to CARD UTILITIES, CLEAR IRD, UNMARRY.
